May 12, 2011

We got the recent bloodwork back and Peyton did show increased titers (ability to fight disease) to Tetanus this time but insufficient titers to pertussis (whooping cough). The dr is suspecting that she might initially create the immunity (titers) to these diseases but for some reason loses it over time. Only future bloodwrok can confirm this for sure and unfortunately, we have to wait 4-6 wks in between each shot to test again. Plus, my Pediatrician has a limited number of tests he is able to order. More sophisticated tests have to be run by a specialist.

So...we finally decided with our Pediatrician that we would move on to an appointment with Immunology at Texas Children's Hospital for Peyton. I called to make my appointment and the first available date is....May 12, 2011. SERIOUSLY! We are working a few avenues right now to see if we can get it moved up. There is no way I plan on waiting a year for any relief so until we can get into TCH I am going to work with the Allergist (who is trained in Immunology too) that Dr Leach recommends around here. We have already seen him once because of the elevated allergies so hopefully he can help us out until we can see the doctors at TCH. Regardless, we have to wait 4 wks to do any more bloodwork since she got a few more shots this week. Hopefully we don't get too sick in the meantime.

Kids say the Darndest things

Two times in the last month I have been MORTIFIED in front of complete strangers by the innocent words of my sweet 3 yr old Addison.

First incident:
We were at Addi's dance recital taking a bathroom break while watching the rest of the show. We leave the bathroom and walk through the not very crowded foyer passing an older lady. She makes eye contact with Addi and smiles. Addi looks at me and says (very loudly) "Woah Mommy look at her giant ninnies (boobs)!" I hung my head, grabbed her arm and tried to control my laugh as I ushered her back to our seats.

Second Incident:
We were at Walgreens picking up yet another medication for Peyton. Addi has to use the potty. As we went to leave the restroom there was a lady who works in the pharmacy waiting to go in next. She smiles and says "hi" to Addison. Addison looks up at me and says (loudly again) "Mommy look at her giant belly!" And no she was NOT pregnant!

Sigh....

Mixed Emotions

I am filled with mixed emotions today...Jordan leaves this afternoon for his mom's until mid August. Over the last 6 months puberty has defintely settled in our house and it's onset was a bit trying to say the least! As parent of a teenager I am lucky to have a break from the ups and downs of daily life but at the same time, Addison is coming to an age where she is questioning why Jordan leaves for periods of time. It is no secret that Jordan has 2 families and that I am his step mom but as much as we try to explain it to her, she just doesnt get it. She knows he goes to "California" and rides on a plane to get there but beyond that I am not sure what she understands. But all in all, I will take attempting to explain it to Addison daily if that still means I get a break and time to juice up for the next round...high school YIKES! :)

Almost there!

Let's see if this works...here is video of Peyton trying to walk.

She is so close to walking but crawling is just so much easier at this point...it shouldn't be long until I officially have a "toddler" on my hands. I can't wait :)

Dancing Queen

I signed Addison up for dance this year. I think she was initially more excited about wearing a tutu than dancing but all in all she looked forward to class each week. One of her favorite friends, Charlotte, joined her in class so that made it even more fun. Too much fun actually..they ended up being separated many of the classes :)

She had her recital this past weekend and we could not be more proud of our little angel. She got up on the stage and performed so well! Her class did a tap number to 5 Little Ducks so you can only imagine how adorable the costumes were :) Here are a few pictures:
